Ms. Elaine Robertson currently works for the South Bay Union School District in Imperial Beach, California as a Speech Language Specialist and serves students from preschool through sixth grade.
Mrs. Robertson also has experience working at the high school level in the same capacity, at San Diego City Schools. She earned her B.A. in Speech/Language Pathology and an M.A. in Communication Disorders along with the related public school credentials in Language, Speech and Hearing.
From her 25 years of public school experience, as well as teaching at the graduate level, Mrs. Robertson has become very aware of the concerns and issues that classroom teachers face, given the broad range of abilities of their students, making her an excellent tutor and consultant.
She also teaches for National University to graduate students about critical special educational issues.
Dr. Jack Robertson would like to speak to your organization, whether to top executives or to elementary students. He will energize your conference, school assembly, service club or university. Dr. Jack Robertson has been an educator for over 30 years, who currently is an Adjunct Professor, teaching graduate students at the University of San Diego and National University. He is happily married and the proud father of two children.
Dr. Jack Robertson has used a wheelchair since 1969, achieved many athletic endeavors (swam the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain to Africa), and has taught general and special education, K-12 and graduate students for 26 years.
He entertains, educates, informs and motivates audiences to pursue passions, reach goals, overcome adversity and soar high by utilizing our abilities to achieve success.
Since 1975, Jack has completed 23 solo Marathon Swims, 4 Marathon Relay Swims, 5 Biathlons (swimming and w/c racing, 8 Triathlons (swimming) and a number of sailing, w/c marathons and para-Olympic events. His solo swims include; 28.5 miles around Manhattan Island on his second try in 1987, the 22 kilometers Strait of Gibraltar (Spain to Africa,) in 2003, also in 2003, Jack was selected as the Most Inspirational Swimmer of the Navy Seals’ Super Frog ˝ Triathlon event, and San Francisco’s Point Bonita 10k Swim, in the frigid waters under the Golden Gate Bridge. In 1975, he is the only one to ever complete the 18 mile swim to the Mexican Coronado Islands from Point Loma (San Diego mainland) and the first person in 1981 to swim 12 miles around San Diego’s Coronado Island and then completed the circumnavigational swim three more times with his swimming partner Jamshid Khajavi!
Jack was Los Angeles’ KCOP, Sports Star of the Year in 1988!
In a letter from President Gerald Ford after Jack’s first English Channel attempt, he stated, …“The boldness of spirit which enabled you to challenge the English channel and determination …. are shining examples of human courage which have inspired millions of people everywhere.”…(1975)
Captain James A. Lovell, USN (Ret), Consultant to the President on Physical Fitness and Sports wrote to Jack, “….You are congratulated for you efforts on behalf of all handicapped persons. We believe you are truly demonstrating that handicapped persons are as capable of completing tasks as those having complete use of their limbs…” (1975)
Lou Holtz, international motivational speaker and Notre Dame’s popular winning coach singles Jack out in his renowned video, “Do Right”. Holtz says, …“Next time you get down hearted, remember the name of Jack Robertson, 1973 graduate of my alma mater, Kent State University, came within 800 yards of swimming the English Channel. You say what’s so great about that? Jack Robertson’s a paraplegic, does not have the use of any legs.”… (1988)
“The Swimmer”, a 30 minute documentary of Jack’s English Channel swim, syndicated across the U.S. on public television and internationally. Produced, directed and edited by John Verbeck, 1976.
